Set Up a Website: Website Host and Domain Name

set up website

With the large amount of newbies feeling lost when it comes to setting up a website, they are missing out on a great opportunity to make money online.

In this comprehensive step-by-step guide to set up your website, I will be showing you how to set up your website by:

  1. Getting a Domain Name
  2. Sign Up for Web Hosting
  3. Change DNS Nameserver Settings
  4. Install WordPress

This whole guide is the exact same steps which I took to set up this blog, so it has been tested and proven to work.

Step 1: Register a Domain Name

A domain name is the internet address of your website, e.g. Google.com or Facebook.com. You’ll need to choose a domain name so that people can look for you online.

Some Tips to Choose a Domain Name

  • Your domain name should be simple, catchy, and short. This makes it easier for people to remember you, so that you will get return visitors to your website.
  • Domain names should be unique. If you are thinking about registering a domain name which is a misspelled version of a popular brand, you should drop that idea right now as the search engines will consider you as a spammer, so you will lose out on 80% of online traffic.
  • Avoid stop words and plurals. Stop words are words like “the”, “of”, “is”, etc. These words create confusion for your visitor, as your domain name is hard to remember.

Go to Namecheap.com now and follow the steps in the video below to register a domain name.

Step 2: Website Host Registration

A web host is a service that allows your website to be uploaded and stored online. A simple analogy is that a domain name is the “plot of land” while a web host is the “house”. With the vast number of web hosts in the market, and most of them being bogus or having many technical issues (like long down-times), I personally recommend Hostgator.com.

So, get to Hostgator.com right now and watch the video below to continue setting up your website.

Step 3: Transfer DNS to Webhost

After completing step 3, you should have received an email from HostGator.com regarding your DNS Nameservers. An example of a nameserver should look like: ns123.hostgator.com. Note that “123” can be any number, with any amount of digits.

A simple way to explain this step is building the house (domain name) onto a plot of land (web host). This is the most complicated step, so follow the instructions in the video carefully and try not to mess up.

Step 4: Install WordPress through QuickInstall at HostGator.com

WordPress is a free blogging platform for you to set up your website/blog. Although it is called a “blogging platform”, normal static pages can also be set up easily. Installing WordPress will enable you to access, organise, and configure your website without any knowledge of web design or programming.

Congratulations For Your New Website

Congrats… you have successfully set up your website. If you are setting up a blog, find out how to set up a blog (less technical, but more human aspects).

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

All you have to do is to follow the steps in the videos provided. Watch 1 video at a time and follow closely, do not watch all the videos at once and confuse yourself. Which step are you currently stuck at right now?

I do accept as true with all of the concepts you have offered to your post. They are really convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are too brief for beginners. May you please prolong them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
